How to setup the DNS for your domain

To set up your website correctly, you need to have your Domain name pointing to your hosting company's nameservers (they'll then point it to your website). To do this you have to:

  • Log into your domain control panel (Most domain control panels are similar).
  • Click on DNS server (May also be called Name server, depending on what registrar you are using).
  • Input your servers DNS settings into the two boxes. See Common Settings for more information.
  • Click Save.

Domain Name propagation can take up to 48 hours to complete (your Internet Service Provider generally keeps copies of DNS settings, and they need to be refreshed - thus during the transition period, different people may find it updates at different times). To speed up this process for you only, you can use the Hosts file trick.
